Publisher's summary

Some doors are locked for a reason....

While 11-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.

Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not a killer like her father. The police can't pin anything on her.

As long as they don't look in her basement.

Narrator

The narrator was horrendous. I hate giving a bad review but this narrator had the most annoying voice.

My first audible book

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Well done on the plot twist. I didn’t suspect that at all.

PLEASE BELIEVE THE REVIEWS ABOUT BAD NARRATION

I have only ever written one book review, until now. I love Freida books, and this story was ok (for Freida’s standards), BUT THE NARRATOR MADE ME WANT TO PUNCH SMALL ANIMALS. I read the reviews, I even sampled a small amount. Her voice was a little gross, but I was interested and trusting the process. DEAR GOD, IT WAS AWFUL.

First of all, she says “twenty-six” about 5000 times because of what happened 26 years ago. But her TW words are pronounced with a chw sound. It sounds dramatic, mostly because I feel dramatic about how awful it was, but it murdered my ears. I am black listing this narrator from my earshot EVER again. I thought I would try to read this one, since I was so distracted by the narration, and all I can hear is the narrator’s half-yell voice chw-ing in my ears.

SKIP THIS ONE, or read it instead of listening. Or ignore me, and you can feel outraged too.

Great book, but annoying narration

I really love this book. It gets you right from the start and is hard to let down, but the narration is hard for me to listen to. The "male voices" sounds like supper heroes puffed up voices. And every single word sounds very dramatic. There is no change in whether there really is something dramatic or just a normal mundane sentence .

Good story, however, narrator is annoying.

If you can get past the narrator trying too hard to make things seem creepy (even at times in the story when they're not), you'll find that this is a good story. I wish I would've just read it on paper myself as the narrator took away from the story.

Great Story, Horrible Narrator

The writing is wonderfully crafted and full of suspense with lots of twists and turns all the way to the end. The narrator is horrible. Her voice is somewhere in between a valley girl and Napoleon Dynamite. And when she tries to talk in another character's voice... Watch out because all she does is comically lower her female voice. It was very hard to listen to- even though the story was good.
